Dealing with the 50.2 Fuser Error on the HP LaserJet 4240, 4250, and 4350 printer

One of the more common fuser issues you will see on these models is the 50.2 fuser error. In this article I’d like to talk about the possible causes of the error and how to go about troubleshooting the machine before deciding to replace the fusing assembly. Also at the end of the article is a link to purchase a replacement fusing unit for your printer and a link to fuser replacement instructions if needed.

1. The 50.2 fuser error is a warm up issue inside the printer. First thing to do is power off then on the machine. I’ve seen the heating elements inside the unit get weak. Sometimes by turning it off then on it allows the fusing assembly more time to heat up to the correct operating temperature. My warning here is that if it fixes your issue keep a close eye on the machine or print off the error log to see if this is a reoccurring event. I’ve gone onsite and cleaned the machine up and it worked fine after I turned it off them back on. A few days later I get a call back saying the error is back. So if I see in the error log that this has happened on multiple occasions it’s time to replace the fuser.

2. Check your power source. Not enough juice to your machine could cause a warm up issue. Make sure that it is not on a power strip with multiple devices and never plug it into a UPS or battery backup. Also these machines should not be on the same circuit as coffee makers, space heaters, or other large devices like copiers. These devices are big heaters that draw a lot of power like your machine. To many devices needing that much power with cause a power struggle between the devices. Because the printer measures the heat in the unit it will be the one that gives you issues.

3. Environment – Make sure the printer is not in an extremely cold area. Also if you move the machine from the outside make sure you allow a few hours of time to let the machine warm up to its new environment.

4. Check your connections on the fuser unit, remove the fusing assembly and reseat it. Try again. If all the steps above failed to fix your machine then it’s probably time to replace it. Follow the instructions below for removal and replacement of the fuser and click on the amazon link to purchase a fusing assembly or maintenance kit.
